Adams Portrait Awards

My latest piece, 'Pickle', is a painting of my daughter Mia. It will be entered for selection at the Adams Portrait Award at the New Zealand Portrait Gallery in Wellington. I have wanted to paint Mia for so long and this was the perfect excuse. It was very rewarding painting her and I also found it quite emotional, but thoroughly enjoyable, trying to capture all of her character which I know and love, and paint it on canvas. I am really happy with the result and it makes me realise how lucky I am to have such a lovely 'Pickle'.

The exhibition will be held at Shed 11, Wellington, from 24th February until 11 April 2010.

Two new paintings

Well I started 2 new paintings at the start of this month. These are from my 'skinny ladies' theme. I wanted them to look very timeless, elegant and dainty. I love the look of old fashioned things like the old telephones, and also, I absolutely adore tea cups.

I have no titles for them yet, but here is the telephone one, including my initial underpainting:

And this is a very special painting because it has a wonderful detail in it which is not immediatley noticeable. The clock hanging on the wall is a fully working clock.

As for the furniture, beware anyone whose house I visit and you have nice I will be back on your doorstep before you know it and taking photographs! The gorgeous tea stand which the vase of flowers is standing on is courtesy of a friend of a friend, Kylie, who I met twice and spent more time gawping at her beautiful furniture than joining in the conversation. So 'thank you', Kylie for letting me see your lovely house again.

First post......hello!

Well I thought I'd better get with the times and start a blog.....better late than never and all that!

I am english but moved to New Zealand with my husband in 2000. We absolutely adore it here. I started painting again about 5 years ago having qualified with an illustration degree in the UK in 1994.

I love painting and spend every spare moment either thinking about it, sketching out ideas or at my easel creating. I work in acrylics mainly and portray the female form with elegance and poise.

After Midnight

Sometimes I venture away from this when I have a need or obsession. Earlier this year, I just had to paint cows,

Watching You

and last month I just had to paint teacups,

Tea 'n' Krispie

but now I am back again to my lovely ladies.

Off the Hook

Currently I am working on a piece for the North Shore Art Awards (which needs to be finished before the 21st September). I am also creating the start of a series of 3 little paintings which I will complete at the Gallery Q 1st Birthday party on Saturday 19th September in Waimauku (near Auckland New Zealand). I have also entered into 2 new shows which have a selection process so I won't know until next month if I am in or not. Fingers crossed. :-)

Anyway, I shall leave it here for now. Shall pop in again soon with more piccies.
